AFOBI
FREE KIDNEY DIALYSIS CENTER
Free Kidney Dialysis Center
Free Kidney Dialysis Center under the umbrella of Anjuman Falah-o-Behbood-e-Insaniat Mirpur Azad Kashmir (AFOBI) which is situated in boundary wall of Divisional Headquarter Teaching Hospital Mirpur AJK has experienced significant growth over the years, both in terms of patients served and its capacity to provide dialysis treatment. Established since 2003 under Registration No. DSW/274 (Act 1982), it has become an essential healthcare service in the community, providing over 160,000 dialysis treatments to date.
Starting with just three dialysis machines in 2003, the center has expanded to 29 machines, enabling it to treat more than 50 patients daily across three shifts. The fact that the center has separate wards for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and general patients shows a commitment to providing specialized care in a safe environment for all patients.
In terms of general information, kidney dialysis is a life-saving treatment for patients with kidney failure. It helps to filter waste, salt, and excess fluids from the blood when the kidneys can no longer perform these functions. Dialysis can be done in different ways, including hemodialysis, which is most likely the method used in this center, or peritoneal dialysis, which uses the lining of the abdomen.

Our Journey
It’s inspiring to hear about the evolution of the Free Kidney Dialysis Centre over the years! The story of growth from a small unit to a well-established center shows the determination and support that has made such a positive impact on the community. Here’s a recap of the key milestones:
- 1998: The journey began with a small dialysis unit operating with just one machine.
- 2003: The center became known as the Saiqa Zahoor Kidney Dialysis Centre, expanding to 4 machines.
- 2006: Noor Foundation UK and Anjuman Falah-o-Behbood-e-Insaniat Mirpur (AFOBI) took over the management with 6 machines.
- 2009: The center grew to 7 machines and also acquired 2 small water treatment plants for water purification—essential for dialysis.
- 2010: The center added 2 new machines and discarded an older machine, reflecting its ongoing improvements.
- 2011: The addition of 2 more machines helped to meet the rising demand, and one of the water treatment plants was replaced (with a donation).
- 2013: The water treatment plants were upgraded with larger capacity units, and one was reconstructed as a standby unit. Two more machines were added, and an old machine was discarded.
- 2017: Through the Prime Minister Pakistan Program, the center received a major boost, adding 10 machines and 1 water treatment plant.
This expansion reflects the increasing commitment of the center to meet the growing need for dialysis services. It’s clear that both local and international organizations, like the Noor Foundation and Anjuman Falah-o-Behbood-e-Insaniat (AFOBI), have played an important role in this growth, with numerous donations contributing to the upgrades.
